In addition to his practice, he serves as Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Tufts University School of Medicine. His research has been published in the leading journal, Ophthalmology.
Dr. Gilbert graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California at Berkeley with a Great Distinction in General Scholarship. From the start of his medical career, Dr. Gilbert sought the best possible clinical training. He received his MD from the top-ranked University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine. During medical school, Dr. Gilbert was drawn to ophthalmology because of the specialty’s reliance upon visual diagnostic skills. Because of his dedication to clinical medicine, he first elected a rigorous internal medicine internship at Boston’s Beth Israel Hospital. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at Tufts-New England Medical Center where clinical acumen and surgical skills were emphasized.
Following his formal medical training, Dr. Gilbert joined the Nepal Blindness Program, serving as a Seva Foundation volunteer ophthalmologist in Nepal and India in 1989-90. While there, he treated patients with limited access to modern ophthalmology and helped teach Nepalese ophthalmologists.
Dr. Gilbert values his one-on-one relationship with patients. He is committed to providing the latest in proven eye therapy techniques in a compassionate and courteous environment.
Outside the office, Dr. Gilbert enjoys eclectic music, skiing, travel, and wooden model shipbuilding. He is a perennial participant in the Pan-Mass Challenge, an annual two-day, 200-mile bike ride that raises millions of dollars to support the Jimmy Fund’s cancer research activities.
